Unfortunately, due to the current COVID-19 situation we have had to take the difficult decision to postpone this years retreat.
We will update you as soon as we have news for next years retreat.
Thanks for your understanding.
Carers Retreat 12th to 18th September 2021
The house overlooks Walmer Castle on the Kent coast, has 7 bedrooms, 3 are en suite and 3 of which are in the annexe with a shared bathroom. The house is not suitable for anyone with mobility issues
There is some parking available on site and Walmer station is just under a mile away with regular services from London St Pancras International. Details are yet to be confirmed but a free pickup from the station might be possible.
This will be the first ever Carers Retreat organised by TRA and is therefore very flexible in format. The main aim is to give carers a break from their caring duties with the opportunity to share experiences with other carers. It is anticipated that representatives of TRA will be available during the week if required, in an informal capacity.
It is possible that day trips to local attractions will be arranged (we are currently investigating insurance costs etc). These day trips will be free of charge (but may not include entrace fees etc). The choice of activity will be made by the carers themselves during their stay.
Local points of interest within a short drive include:
Margate and the Turner Gallery
Dover & Castle
Canterbury & Cathedral
Port Lympne Wild Animal Park
Day trips to France by ferry or eurotunnel
Smallhythe Place, Tenterdon (Nat Trust)
and many, many more
(carers will be welcome to suggest further options)
And there is the delightful town of Walmer, with a castle that you can see from the house, to explore.
There are numerous quiet places around the house and gardens if carers just want to chill out with a good book.
The Carers Retreat is open to any carers, even if they hae received a grant or holiday in the last 18 months, is provided on a bed and breakfast basis and is totally free of charge (though a £50 refundable deposit is requested).
